Versace: S12

Let's take another look at Versace Spring 2012... I will say first that the wide ties, loose pants, and beefed up shoulders are so not my style, but here are my three take-aways from the show.

Color under Neutrals: Most of the time we see color executed in two ways; (1) Pop-of-Color add-on's with shoes and accessories and (2) full on color blocking. This is a new way to do color! Having a bright shirt peeking out of a blazer or sweater is a subtle and unexpected way of adding a neon to your look, especially if you're not ready for the extreme.

Pink and Red: I am surprised at how much I enjoy these two together. If you asked me before, I would have said it reminds me of Valentine's Day but if the shade of pink is "HOT,"  it's a love.

Details: Buckles for everyone, everywhere! Hopefully you don't need to use them to get your pants on and off!

Red, White, and Blue

When I was putting this outfit together I really wanted to do a denim jacket, but it was definitely too warm for a heavy layer. So I thought of trying a denim shirt to get the look without the sweating, and decided it was a keep. With all the blue, I took out some khaki shorts, (I live in these cut-offs, in various colors all summer!) white leather sneakers, and red bracelets. Now that I think about it, it's kind of a patriotic color scheme... I guess we'll use it as inspiration for the fourth!

WIMB: Man-Clutch Edition

Sometimes when I carry my big blue clutch people ask me what I keep inside it, which gave me an idea: I thought I would do a "What's Inside my Bag: Man-clutch Edition" I like to carry this around when I don't have a lot of stuff to carry and don't want to lug a bag empty bag around. It's also great for days when carrying a heavy bag will make you sweat.

Inside My Bag:
1. Small zip wallet
2. Sunglasses
3. Headphones
4. Coin case
5. Sandwich for lunch

Gucci: Spring 2012

I was looking back at Gucci S12 and I wanted to point out the use of neutrals within the collection. After being bombarded with bright colors from almost every runway, it's refreshing to have an ensemble of neutrals coming our way. And who said neutral had to be boring? My girl Frida at Gucci expertly mixes warm and cool neutrals with varying textures to complete some really great looks. Inspired?

Pastel Moment

Ok, I'm having a moment here... This is pastel trend my way. I was feeling a little washed out so I put on a bunch of black to break it up, and took my cobalt man-clutch (which I am currently obsessed with) for some BAM action.

The story on the shorts:
They started out as J. Crew pants that were a little too loose in the leg for my taste so I cut them off, as I do with most of my old pants. I had seen this designer jacket splattered with multi-colored paint that I could not afford so I was inspired to do it my own way. When I was painting my bedroom a fresh white, I turned my cut-offs into painter's shorts. Love

A Week of Instagram

These are some of this week's Instagram posts that I feel should be on the blog. My daily sock / shoes combos never make it to the blog, so I thought this was a good time.

Nylon Jacket from Gap

I found this jacket when I was shopping at Gap today and I think it's perfect for when you need a layering piece on those warmer days. It's available in two vibrant colors of light-weight nylon with cool white zippers and only $70. So, why not?

Givenchy: Birds of Paradise

I just had to blog about this print from Givenchy.... Let me just say, it's everywhere except in my closet! :(   Second, I love this print so much that it's almost an obsession at this point. The thing that is most intriguing is seeing the range of people wearing it. It is surprisingly workable into almost any wardrobe. It just screams summertime doesn't it?

Dries Van Noten: Spring 2012

Today's runway snippet is Dries Van Noten. I have to say that this show wasn't getting much of my attention back in June, but spotting the shoes at Barney's a few weeks ago inspired me to do a post. First, those shoes are a major win for me because the design is super clean and simple which allows for that chunky stacked sole to take the stage. (And if you're thinking they look heavy... they are!) Taking a closer look at the collection, I see there are a lot of details I missed before such as the zippers and tie closures on pants and shorts. This is why I always circle back to the shows mid-season. I am starting to get bored (dare i say it) with that red/orange color that is everywhere right now so I find the navy-brown-black stripe to be refreshing. And the combo will be sticking around for fall.

Shades of Grey

As my quest for the perfect leather biker jacket continues, this cotton version is holding me over until I have that long awaited moment of finding the right one. I found it randomly one day while passing through Macy's. It was the only one left, on sale, and in my size.... meant to be!
I was really feeling the grey because the weather has been pretty gross here in Boston, but I took these tin man shoes out of hiding for  a little metallic fun. I wore them for months straight when I first got them a few years ago and they've been hibernating since so I thought it was time to dust them off. Overall, this is a bit of a different look for me but its working, so I think we'll see more of this in the future. The biker jacket is working its way in.

Cole Haan Tri-Color Boat Shoe

Air Yacht Club Boat $158

Cole Haan is always my go-to for shoes. They are always affordable, comfortable and most importantly, they look damn good. This time, I fell in love with a tri-colored boat shoe. Hibiscus suede, white leather, and a blue rubber sole is an unexpected take on the classic style which counts as a win for me. I can definitely see myself wearing these all summer long!

School's Out

I found this sweater vest in the girls section in Macy's but it was a boy's small so I didn't fit. Naturally,  not being able to buy that one only made me want it more. This made me turn back around and furiously search the boys section for an extra large. Found one! And to my surprise, only $15. My inspiration? School uniform about 5 minutes after that last bell rings.
